Blaine County School District Trustee-elect Steve Guthrie has received an A+ Friend of Education award from the Idaho Education Association.

Guthrie was one of nine individuals or organizations statewide to be honored for making an "extraordinary contribution to Idaho's public schools," according to an education association press release.

Guthrie, co-president of the Wood River Middle School Parent Teacher Association, was lauded for leadership in raising funds for classroom supplies and projects. He was also cited for development of the middle school Web site, for involvement in the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition and for starting Project 7th Grade, an alcohol and drug reduction program at the middle school.

Education association President Sherri Wood described Guthrie as "someone who has helped make our public schools the people's schools—schools of the people, by the people and for the people."

Guthrie was elected to the Blaine County school board in May. He will be seated as a board member in July.
