Major milestone reached by karate students

Junior black belts in Okinawan Goju-Ryu

After eight years of training, four local students have successfully completed their testing by Sensei Johnny Bolton and Sensei Dennis Kavanagh, to receive their Junior Black Belts in the Okinawan Goju-Ryu style of karate. The students spent two nights each week (except summer) for the past eight years in their training. On May 23 in the Hailey Dojo they took a one-hour written test and two-and-a-half hour physical test that included performing katas, sparring and combinations of forms. It ended with 100 push-ups. The test took place in the Hailey Dojo on May 23rd. Pictured here are, from left, Sensei Johnny Bolton, Jimmy Holcomb, Jake Miczulski, Stephen Poklemba, Emmi Griffin and Sensei Dennis Kavanagh.
