Fat tire cyclists kick off the Wood River Cup

Five-week series opens west of Hailey


It was a good start with 76 cyclists coming out Wednesday, May 27 for the debut of the eighth annual Wood River Cup short track mountain bike racing series near Hailey.

Reid Pletcher and Rebecca Rusch rode away with first-place finishes in the Pro/Expert Category A classes, at Hailey Community Bike Park located three-and-a-half miles west of Hailey on the backside of Rotarun.

Race director Billy Olson, owner and operator of Powerhouse Bike Shop on N. 1st St. in Hailey, said the Wood River Cup is scheduled for each Wednesday evening through June, ending June 24. Newcomers are invited to come out and ride.

Beginners in Category C ride at 5:30 p.m., Sports in Category B at 6 p.m., Shimano Youth Series racers at 6:30 p.m. and Pro/Experts 7:15 p.m. Cost is $25 for each event, or $75 for the entire five-week series. Sign up Wednesdays at the race site.
