Due to its financial difficulties, the 27-hole Valley Club Golf Course north of Hailey will not get land for another nine holes from developer Harry Rinker's Peregrine Ranch. As a result, Rinker has also abandoned plans to develop 72 lots that would have surrounded the golf course extension.
Rinker agreed several years ago to donate 90 acres on Peregrine Ranch for what would have been called "The Peregrine fourth nine."
The golf course would have increased the value of Rinker's property surrounding the course.
"We came to this difficult decision after the club's careful examination of its financial capacity to afford an additional nine holes at this time or in the foreseeable future," Rinker stated in an e-mail to the Idaho Mountain Express.
The e-mail states that Rinker and The Valley Club's board of directors decided to cancel a development agreement on May 20.
Under the agreement, The Valley Club would have developed and maintained the nine holes on the donated land.
On May 21, Rinker informed the county that he was withdrawing his PUD application for the development. He said in an interview that he was doing so because of the Valley Club's inability to build the golf course addition.
