Local golfers are looking forward to two popular fundraising tournaments at resort courses in June.
The 12th annual Chuck Gates Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Sunday, June 7 at Sun Valley Golf Course. And the second annual Suns Foundation and Sun Valley Suns Golf Classic is set for Saturday, June 27 at Elkhorn Golf Club.
Organizer Roger Roland has announced preliminary details for the Gates Memorial, a fundraiser for youth golf programs in the Wood River Valley.
The silent auction beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing all day will feature a signed Davis Love III golf club, a Hawaii vacation and a restaurant package. Idaho golf pro Joe Malay will give a kid's golf demonstration at 12 noon, and the golfers will begin their tours at 1:30 p.m.
Chris Benson of the Suns Foundation said "we are looking to get 22 to 25 groups of five like we did two years ago." Format for the 3 p.m. June 27 shotgun start is five-person modified best ball—the fifth player in the group a current Sun Valley Suns hockey player or alumni star.
The cost of $140 per golfer includes a buffet. There will be a no-host bar and auctions after the golf.
Benson said, "We're looking for golfers to fill the spots and to provide sponsorships in different ways—main tournament, dinner, hole sponsors, driving range or just donors—and we are also looking for great auction items. If you can't make that date but would like to make a donation, we can have a junior golfer play for you. That would be greatly appreciated."
