School district tone was harsh

I would like to address the recent article attacking the Wood River Middle School PTA and its endorsement of a specific candidate in the current school board election of Zones 2 and 4. I want to make clear that I am submitting this letter as an individual, community member and parent.

I do not personally know school district attorney Adam King but strongly object to his tone in the article chastising the Wood River Middle School PTA. Districtwide there are passionate, caring and involved parents who volunteer their time to the PTA and the local schools. We are not a radical, malicious group that plots to overthrow the school board. This was an innocent oversight of bylaws that we are all now very aware of.

I have lived in this valley since 1986 and can count on one hand when there were contested seats. Incumbents usually serve until they don't want to anymore. The district and community should be excited to see people stepping up who want to be involved in our district.

Serving on the school board is not easy and is a huge commitment. So forgive some of us PTA parents if we are excited. I cannot vote this year as I do not live in Zone 2 or 4. But if I could vote, my personal choice for Zone 2 would be Steve Guthrie and my personal choice for Zone 4 would be Paul Bates.

We live in a community that supports a fabulous school district. The staff at every level is dedicated and professional. The students are our shining light.
