PTA meant no harm

I was dismayed to see the article in Wednesday's paper: "PTA chastised for candidate endorsements." I want to make it very clear that at no point did Steve Guthrie or Paul Bates have anything to do with my and two other PTA board members' decision to endorse them for the board of trustees election. It came to our attention after the fact, that PTA officers are restricted by state bylaws from endorsing any school board candidates as an organization. It was very disheartening to read that "they" were consulting the state attorney general's office over this matter.

It was not our intention to draw attention away from an important decision affecting our schools, children and community. We wrote the endorsement as concerned and involved parents and we apologize for any wrongdoing. We wish each and every candidate the very best.
