Express sponsors school trustee candidates' forum

Express Staff Writer

The Idaho Mountain Express will sponsor a candidates' forum tonight for next week's Blaine County School District board of trustees elections.

The forum is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Blaine County Courthouse at 206 First Ave. S. in Hailey.

Candidates will give opening remarks, followed by questions from the news media, the public and each other. Express Editor Shea Andersen will serve as moderator.

Five candidates have filed for election. Running in Zone 2, which includes south Hailey and rural areas south and west of the city, are incumbent Kim Nilsen, Steve Guthrie and Jim Laski. Running in Zone 4, which includes west Ketchum and areas north and south of the city, are incumbent Alexandra Sundali and Paul Bates.

All candidates, with the exception of Nilsen who is in Ecuador this week, are expected to attend.

The elections will be held Tuesday, May 19. Polls will be open from noon until 8 p.m. Zone 2 voters can cast ballots at Hailey Elementary School and Zone 4 voters will vote at Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum.

In the case of Zone 2, which has three candidates, a majority vote is not necessary and the candidate receiving the most votes will win.
