Petals and Stems is offering make and take bouquets for Mother's Day on Friday, May 8, at 3 p.m. and Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. Coffee and donuts will be provided to participants who bring in vases or containers to create floral arrangements with fresh spring flowers. The local Esperanza Chapter will hold a Mother's Day brunch after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 10, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Sun Valley. Proceeds from the brunch will help a group of students build houses in a low-income community this summer in Mena, Arkansas, which was devastated by a tornado on April 9, 2009.
A non-profit, non-sectarian, charitable corporation, Esperanza International works in partnership with communities in the Tijuana region of Mexico, but has called off the Tijuana trip due to the drug trade related violence and presence of the swine flu.
