On torture

In your April 24 editorial, your partisan witch hunt continues with you calling for imprisonment, or worse, for any Bush administration official who had anything to do with the so-called torture of enemy terrorists. There has been no investigation into the torture interrogation techniques, yet you have pronounced guilt and sentenced individuals you feel were guilty.

Are those that you named the only ones who are guilty? Do you believe we should only imprison the Republicans? How about Nancy Pelosi, who was briefed continuously as a member of the House Intelligence Committee? Should she be imprisoned? By not objecting to the waterboarding being used, isn't she as guilty as the rest? Isn't her silence in committee about the techniques used an affirmation of their use?

You cannot in your blind hatred of the Bush administration seriously believe that those in the intelligence community and other officials didn't have the security of our country in mind as they made those decisions. We live in a post 9/11 world and tough decisions need to be made. The decisions made for seven years kept our nation safe from further terrorist attacks. The terrorists on whom these techniques were used are enemy combatants who had information about attacks on our military and civilian population, which if carried out could have killed thousands. The techniques used were effective and saved countless American lives. Not one of the terrorists was killed or maimed. In fact, they are all in perfect health.

Where is your outrage over the torture techniques used by the terrorists on Daniel Pearl? The Bush administration made many mistakes, as the Obama administration has and will. But as much as you hate to admit it, our country has been safe since 9/11 and the Bush administration is responsible. You can thank them for that.
