Support DeNovo project

I write in support of the DeNovo Independence LLC proposal submitted at the Sun Valley Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on April 23 (for comprehensive plan amendment).

I believe there probably were at least 100 citizens at the meeting and I believe 95 percent of them were in support of the DeNovo proposal. Two attendees made points to the contrary, all other contributors spoke in support of the project (there were two ovations). I believe this reflects the opinions of Sun Valley and Ketchum residents, at least those who have shared their thoughts with me.

Ketchum/Sun Valley is struggling as a resort. It is more difficult now to bring people here from out of town. Why, as a community, do we seem to resist external investment stimuli and improvement projects? We need this type of eco-friendly, community-conscious investment. All positive energy brought to the area is just that: positive. I'm obviously not asking for safety to be compromised, but solutions can be found and this project is creative.

DeNovo has purchased a large portion of currently toxic land, south of Elkhorn in Independence Gulch. Their proposal is to clean, improve and purify their land, in an eco-friendly way.

During the lifecycle of this project, DeNovo properties have and will invest money in local businesses, event sponsorship and general consumer spending. This will obviously result in a sizeable amount of fresh capital being brought to, and spent in, the community. It is also my understanding that DeNovo intends to use all local vendors and contractors (outside of their employed specialists).

My question: With local banks failing and unemployment rising, why do we not support the stimulus of our valley and, in this case, an eco-friendly improvement project and work together to make this beautiful and unique environment better?
