In response to Pat Murphy's "Other Views" from April 22: I believe that it is the liberals who are more hung up about President Obama's color because they are continually bringing it up. I am not an Irish-German-American. I am not a blue-eyed American. I am an American—part of the wonderful melting pot that is America, like President Obama. S. Ann Soetoro, President Obama's mother, was a white woman from the Midwest.
The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln. Republicans nominated Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. The Republican national chairman is Michael Steele, a black man. It was a conservative Republican administration that had Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice in its cabinet.
As for the definition of socialist and fascist from the dictionary: Socialism is a political theory and/or economic system advocating state ownership of industry and capital. A fascist is a person believing in a philosophy or system of government that is marked by stringent social and economic control—a strong centralized government.
I leave it up to the individual to decide which direction this Congress and administration are promoting. I don't believe it is for smaller government, stronger individual states, free-flowing capitalism and the right and responsibilities of the individual. The United States is the most wonderful country in the world. Only in America is the promise of equal opportunity not equal results. That is the individual's responsibility.
