A 19-year-old man who police suspected in a series of home-invasion burglaries in Carey last fall has pleaded guilty to a single count of aiding and abetting burglary.
Jordan James Surerus, who graduated from Carey School in 2008, entered his guilty plea Monday in Blaine County 5th District Court. In exchange for the guilty plea, the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney's Office agreed to dismiss a second charge of aiding and abetting burglary and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was scheduled for June 1 before Judge Robert J. Elgee. According to court records, Surerus remains free on $5,000 bond.
Surerus was arrested by the Blaine County Sheriff's Office in early October following a weeklong burglary spree that involved nine homes in Carey. Sheriff Walt Femling reported at the time that the homes of senior citizens were targeted with the intent of stealing prescription drugs.
"Many of these homes were broken into while people were in their homes sleeping," Femling said.
