Chilcott Kemper Price

Chilcott Kemper Price, a great man of 97 years, passed away Saturday, April 25, in Rapid City, S.D., after a short illness. Chick, CK, Bompy, Bomp-Boy—he was known by many different names—was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and leaves behind his wife of the past 10 years, Beverly, his devoted daughter, Joanna, his granddaughters Karissa and Nellie and two great-grandsons, Asa and Santiago. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of more than 50 years, True Friend, next to whom he will be buried Saturday in the Hailey Cemetery.

Chick was born Jan. 24, 1912, and lived a long and full life truly spanning a vast amount of changes that he always took in stride—and a quick stride at that. He was one of six children whose mother died in childbirth. Over his 97 years, he lived in New Mexico, California, Idaho, Panama and traveled throughout the world. He worked as an engineer for Schultz Manufacturing and Parker Hanifin for more than 25 years. When he "retired," he really went to work as a housepainter, a real estate broker, deliveryman for the Wood River Journal, and all-over handyman for the Hailey pool and for many others along the way. Never one for idleness, Bompy was always quick to go for a brisk walk or hike, loved being out on his dirt bike and began every day with his calisthenics in the garage. He also taught himself to play the harmonica and sang with gusto at every opportunity.

His passion was his church. A devoted Seventh Day Adventist since the age of 22, Chick founded the SDA Church in Hailey, donating the land on which it sits today as well as helping to build the structure with his own hands.

There will be a service on Saturday, May 2, at 3 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hailey. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the local Seventh Day Adventist Church: (208) 788-9448.

Local arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey. The obituary and guest book are available at www.woodriverchapel.com.
