Downed prayer flags

What is up with the downed prayer flags? For 23 years prayer flags have been flown on top of Carbonate, Buttercup and Baldy in memory and honor of friends, family and community. Approximately 10 years ago, a stealth curmudgeon started tearing down the flags and throwing them on the ground. This saddened many of us terribly, especially when a dear friend had died, and the flags had been signed and flown in his memory.

It is important to note that the two sites where this vandalism has consistently occurred (on the Buttercup and Carbonate hills in Hailey) is private property. We have the permission of the owners of both properties to put the flags up. No one has permission to destroy or remove the flags. They are there for everyone to enjoy. To date, about 30 flags have been taken down, sometimes the day after they were put up. The flags and even the lodge poles that support them have been taken. It is so wrong.

Simply put, stop tearing down the prayer flags. It is vandalism. Vandalism and theft are crimes. Please respect the simple expression of hope and compassion that prayer flags exemplify. Be well and do good.
