Diana Fassino, your letter to the editor about guns in America is a prime example of people like you who put things out there with very little knowledge.
After reading your letter I was a little mad. I did some research through the Internet and FBI files and found the following:
Your 120,000 deaths is low. Good job on the eight children per day. One gun death every 17 minutes, that would be 3.5 deaths per hour. FBI statistics show gun-related deaths at 1.2 per hour. Nice try.
Concealed weapons to be allowed on college campuses was introduced in Texas only and the NRA had nothing to do with it.
Your assault weapons comprise 1.7 percent of the U.S. gun storage and only 3 to 4 percent of all homicides are committed by assault weapons. Gee, that leaves 96 to 97 percent of deaths by other means.
Again, an FBI statistic: 80 percent of gun crime is committed by gangs, 95 percent of gun crime involves illegal firearms. There are approximately 20,000 gun laws in this country. If you want to cry, cry to the government to enforce the laws that are there so our crime rate will go down.
Before spouting off put things in the proper perspective.
