Reynoso still seeking first AA victory

Minor league pitcher in Pearl, Miss.

Not for lack of trying, Bellevue's Ryne Reynoso, 24, is still looking for his first victory of the season pitching for the Mississippi Braves of the Class AA Southern League South.

Reynoso (0-1, 4.86 ERA, 16.2 innings, 14 hits, 9 runs, 4 HR, 11 K, 8 BB) started his third game of the season for Mississippi Friday and threw seven solid innings.

He departed after giving up a two-run homer to the visiting Chattanooga Lookouts in the seventh inning. According to a Braves press release, "Reynoso had an outstanding outing even though he gave up three runs. He didn't figure in the decision for the third straight outing."

Former Wood River High School ace Reynoso (88 pitches, 5 hits, 3 runs, 5 K, 2 BB) didn't figure in the decision because the host Braves (9-9, 7-3 home) rallied for three runs in the eighth to capture their sixth straight victory by a 4-3 score.

Reynoso pitched before 4,162 fans in the four-year-old, 8,480 capacity Trustmark Park at Pearl, Miss.

The hard-throwing 6-2, 215-pound righthander has been moved up this spring in the Atlanta Braves professional baseball organization. Reynoso pitched as a starter last year for the Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Pelicans in Class A Advanced.

A good left-handed hitter while an outfielder for Wood River and Boston College, Reynoso has produced at the plate for Mississippi in his starting pitching assignments. In three official trips, he has two hits including a two-run homer and double, has walked once, had a sacrifice bunt, and has driven home three runs.

This year, his minor league season lasts from April 9 through Sept. 7. Currently fourth in the five-team South Division, Mississippi begins a 10-game homestand Thursday, April 30 against last-place Montgomery. Reynoso was due to start today, Wednesday in a day game against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx at Pringles Park, Jackson, Tenn.
