Locals lend a hand in Team Idaho wins

Sun Valley Youth Hockey players laced up the skates for one last time this season at the 2009 Big Sky Select Hockey Tournament in Butte, Mont., April 18-19.

Skating for the 1995 Bantam team, Drew Barsch, Jon Paris and Parker Weekes helped Team Idaho to an undefeated record, along with skaters from Idaho Falls, Boise, Salmon, Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston.

The '95 Idaho squad beat Wyoming (1996) 11-0, Montana (1995) 6-2 and Wyoming (1995) 7-5. In the finals, Idaho knocked off Montana '95s 6-3.

With guidance from assistant coach Mike Punnett of Hailey, the 1996 team from Idaho won the PeeWee Division as well. Suns skaters were Ellie Punnett, Cameron Benson, Gage Jorgenson and goalie Willis Sanchez-duPont.

Team Idaho's Peewees beat Montana's 96s 7-2, won 8-2 over the Wyoming 96s and lost to the Montana 95s by a score of 8-3. In the championship game, Team Idaho's 96s were all over the Wyoming 96 squad 9-2.
