Getting a peek at the Juniper Hills Golf Course, the site of the upcoming 2009 District 4/5 golf tournament, the Wood River boys and girls competed in the Pocatello Regional Invitational on Monday.
Wolverine Crockett Stearns shot a five-over 77 to finish second in the individual standing and pace the Hailey boys (325) to second place in the team division, two strokes behind champion Hillcrest of Idaho Falls (323).
Chance McCroskey fired an 80, Jonathan Hobbs 84, Danny Sundali 84 and Ian Murphy 88. Medalist was Pocatello's Ryan Pearson with a two-under 70.
"The boys said the greens were really fast, something we haven't seen all year," Wood River coach Chet Olson said. "With that said, yesterday was good for them."
For the Wolverine girls, Jennie Williams carded a 106 to place fourth in the overall standings, followed by Bailey Ireland 109, Ashley Hesteness 113, Aimee Evans 116 and Karlie Jeneson 120.
Century was the top team at 398. The Wolverines finished second with a 444.
The Wolverines competed at the Falls Classic at Sand Creek Golf Course in Idaho Falls on Thursday. On Tuesday, April 28, Wood River entertains area teams at The Valley Club in Hailey starting at 10 a.m.
