Carey girls fly at Northside Conference meet

Bolstered by a fine individual performance by three-time champion Amy Ellsworth, the Carey Panthers won the girls' division at the Northside Conference Invitational at Carey last Thursday.

Ellsworth, a junior, broke the tape in the 800-meter run in 2:42.8, and the 1600-meters in 6:07.1. She captured the triple jump, leaping 31-6.25.

Amassing 141 points to runner-up Camas County's 97, the Panther also received solid performances from sophomore Micaela Adamson, who timed out at 28.6 to nip Musher Lindsay Peterson in the 200-meter dash by 1/100th of a second. Adamson (1:04.6) was second to Camas sprinter Mette Ericsson by 6/100ths in the 400-meter run. She garnered red as well in the triple jump to teammate Ellsworth.

The Panthers also picked up valuable points with top-six turns by Nicky Gomez, Kayla Bailey, Kelsey Green, Charmaine Kirkland, Erika Zarate Lorene Andrews, Emilee Butcher and Emily Andrews.

With six individual wins and victories in three out of four relays, Oakley outdistanced the competition in the boys' division, scoring 181 points. Camas County was second with 91 points, Rockland was third at 85 and Carey fourth with 67 points. The Panther's sole victory was by Jacy Baird in 400-meter dash in 54.4. Baird was more than three seconds faster than Brian Babbitt of Oakley. Andrew Carlson claimed second in shotput. Third-place finishers were Brad Peck, Charlie Rivera, Nathan VanEvery, Joe Laidlaw, and Brett Adamson.
