Sheriff cites driver in truck collision

Wreck shut down highways

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office has cited one of the drivers involved in a fiery collision between two tractor-trailers last week at Timmerman Junction south of Bellevue.

Lonnie M. Weeks, 31, of Parma, has been mailed a citation for "failure to yield in a left-hand turn," sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Davis said today. In the April 7 accident, Weeks was driving a grain hauler north on state Highway 75 when he attempted to turn left (west) onto U.S. Highway 20, a sheriff's report stated. His vehicle went into the path of a southbound tractor-trailer driven by Bryce D. Nelson, 31, of Utah, the report stated.

The "T-bone" collision forced the northbound truck partially off the southwest corner of the intersection into a power pole. The grain hauler then caught on fire. The accident and fire completely destroyed the grain hauler, damaged the power pole and delayed travel on the two busy highways for hours.

The crash caused only minor injuries, the sheriff's office reported.

Davis said the moving violation carries a penalty of points on the driver's license and a standard fine.
