The Fifth District high school rodeo circuit including cowboys and cowgirls from Wood River and Carey opens its spring 2009 season of six weekend rodeos Friday and Saturday, April 17-18 at Glenns Ferry.
Wood River High School's Rodeo Club will have four competitors this year, and Carey School has two.
From Wood River, junior Latner Straley is also the club vice president. He is competing in the team roping with three-time Wrangler Division National Finals Qualifier Haillie Taylor, a Wolverine freshman.
Haillie will also compete in barrel racing, polebending, goat tying, breakaway roping and cutting. She is also the club secretary.
Currently in fourth place after four cuttings, Haillie will be in competition for the All-Around Cowgirl Title, a title she has won at Elko Youth Rodeo (twice), Jordan Valley Youth Rodeo and Idaho Girls Rodeo Association Youth All-Around.
Reid Selisch, the club treasurer, will be competing for the Fifth District Queen Title, and she is also in barrel racing and polebending.
Stasha Maricich, the club president, will be bringing her new horse, Casha, to compete in barrel racing and polebending to try to win the Rookie Cowgirl Buckle.
The club coordinator is Janet Dennis at Wood River High School.
And the parent coordinators are Brad and Kelli Taylor.
Competing from Carey are sophomore Danielle Hennefer and freshman Taylor Castle.
The circuit events are:
April 17-18 at Glenns Ferry. April 24-25 at Shoshone. May 1-2 at Jerome. May 8-9 at Blaine County Fairgrounds in Carey. And the district finals May 22-23 in Gooding. All Friday night rodeos begin at 7 p.m. and Saturday rodeos at 5 p.m.
