Back from Spring Break and pressed right into the spring competition season, The Community School 3A tennis team won four of the six doubles matches Thursday and carried away a 7-5 non-conference victory over 4A Wood River on the Hailey courts.

With the two Blaine County teams splitting singles and the boys' and girls' doubles matches, the winning difference for coach Phil Huss' Cutthroats came in their sweep of the mixed doubles category.

The Cutthroat #1 mixed doubles team of Tanner Flanigan and Ricki Eshman and #2 Paul Davis and Melissa Becker won their matches in straight sets. And Wood River's #1 girls' doubles team of Jessica Hamilton and Ellen Davis won in two.

Karl Wilander, Eric Runkel and Julianna Lamb were the Cutthroat singles winners, while Raleigh Grossbaum, Tanya Greenwood and Allie Freund prevailed for Hailey.

Other doubles winners were Wood River's #1 R.J. Forgeon and Brendan Freund, and Cutthroat #2 teams Hunter Weaver and Charlie Grabow, and Gabi Perenchio and Nellie Brown.

Wood River coach Vicki Johnston said, "Plenty of great supporters showed up to watch an exciting day of tennis through the rain, sleet and finally sun.

"It's always a challenge for the players to stay focused playing against friends and with the uncertain weather factor. Some players played half of their match outside and finished up indoors.

"But all the players did a great job of keeping their competitive edge. Not a single match was going to go down without a battle."

The Community School goes to Gooding today, Wednesday and plays Minico Saturday in Twin Falls. Results from the 7-5 Cutthroat win in Hailey:
