The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club has gone wild. Its spring ice show, "Eskate to Africa," includes a number of wild animals and an unusual cast of wild animal characters. The show begins with four "wild" animal buddies at the New York City Zoo who discover they live in Africa, where an adventure ensues.

Professional show skater Gia Guddat directs the show and joins the main cast as Hippo, with former Olympic ice dancer Andrzej Dostatni playing Giraffe. Lion, played by Julianna Lamb, is the pampered star of the New York City Zoo.

Alexandra Harten plays Lion's best friend, Zebra. Zebra is always dreaming of life in the wild and Zebra's dreams come true when the four friends are on a boat commandeered by four plotting penguins. The four friends become stranded in the wilderness where they meet a large cast of unusual wild animal characters.

Group ice skating numbers include characters such as Lemur King, played by Arizona Semones, and King's partying lemurs, flamingos, mini-zebras and other jungle creatures. Solo numbers will be performed by the club's competitive skaters Telar McClure and Nicole Pratt.

The ice show will also feature jump-roping penguins played by Caitlin Sholtis, Grace Eagan, Claire Siderman and Lauren Jacobs. In addition, Michelle Gentling's hand-made ice skating sets, along with over-the-top costumes created by Holly Wheeler and Gia Guddat, should make the audience forget they are watching a show on ice.

"Eskate to Africa" will take place at the Sun Valley indoor ice rink on Saturday, April 18, with two shows, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $5, $10 and $25 and will be sold in advance at Chapter One in Ketchum and Tater Tots in Hailey. Tickets will be available at the door until sold out. In addition, a free public skate will take place in between shows at the Sun Valley outdoor ice rink from 3-5:30 p.m. For details, call 788-6444.
