Settlement reached in hockey stick attack

Hutchinson ordered to undergo counseling

A Ketchum woman charged with battery for clubbing a downed player with her stick during a coed, no-check hockey game has agreed to undergo counseling and to donate $1,000 to junior hockey.

A settlement was reached last week in Blaine County Magistrate Court in the case against 52-year-old Georgia Hutchinson. Court records state that Hutchinson was given a "deferred prosecution," which means the charge can be removed from her record if she successfully completes terms of the agreement.

The agreement also requires that Steve "Hugey" McCoy, the victim of the hockey stick attack, approves the terms and is satisfied that Hutchinson has met requirements within three months.

"It's been signed and my attorney is holding it until she meets all the requirements," McCoy said Thursday.

The battery charge was filed against Hutchinson for hitting McCoy, an opposition player, with her stick during a B+ Hockey League game at the Sun Valley indoor hockey rink on Jan. 11. A Sun Valley police report alleged that McCoy had fallen to the ice and that Hutchinson clubbed him in the leg with her hockey stick hard enough to leave a bruise and break the stick.

"She definitely blew a gasket," McCoy said. "It was negative energy, but now we just want to move forward."
