WRHS golfers strong at Rexburg

Boys emerge as top 4A team


Wood River High School's boys' golf team claimed the top spot among 4A schools and placed fourth overall among the 19 Gem State schools from 5A to 3A competing in Monday's tournament at Rexburg.

Leading Wood River (317 points) in the Madison Invitational at Teton Lakes Golf Club were Jonathan Hobbs and Chance McCroskey with 76s for their 18-hole tours. Davis Hague shot 79, Danny Sundali 86 and Rex Nilsen 88.

Boys' individual medalist was Shelley's Tommy Higham (66), followed closely by Tanner Higham of Shelley (67). Shelley won the team title with 290 points and Madison had 306.

The Wolverine girls (467 points) placed seventh out of 13 schools Monday at Rexburg, with Jennie Williams (97), Aimee Evans (106), Ali Town (133) and Bailey Ireland (130) having cards. Hillcrest (359) and Shelley (384) were the top teams.

Junior varsity action

Wood River's junior varsity boys placed first of three full teams in Tuesday's Murtaugh tournament played at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Kimberly. And the Hailey JV girls were second behind Magic Valley Christian in the team totals.

Placing third and fourth among the individual boys for Wood River were Ian Murphy with a 75 and Jason Tracy with a 78. The medalist was Zach Cummins of Murtaugh (71). Other Wolverines were Sage Sauerbrey (83), Charlie Evans (89), James Petzke (98) and James Landes (104).

Community School golfers at Kimberly were Anthony Martin (91) and Dane Inman (97).

In fourth place overall for Wood River's JV girls was Karlie Jeneson with a 101. Others were Ashley Hesteness (108), Nicole Gillette (109), Kelly Chapman (121) and Maddie Kate Currie (138).
