Free heelers do a thing or two on Baldy

Hawaiian Nationals celebrate a balmy day

Tandemnation edged out a determined Thing 1 and Thing 2 tandem duo, but otherwise all the free heelers seemed to unite Saturday during the Hawaiian Nationals and Sun Valley Tandem Telemark Race on Baldy.

Grand marshal Buck Cobb returned for the big day and emerged as the overall winner with a two-run time of 67.30 seconds in the Elite Men's class. Jen King blew away the Elite Women's class and captured third overall of 88 skiers, free heelers and snowboarders.

Sport winners were Kari Woody and Ehron Kaska in a close heat over Jason Miller. The fastest snowboarders by substantial margins were Kai Robrahn and Jill Parker.

Costumes decorated a beautiful spring skiing day on Baldy's Cozy run. Todd Carrier was a penguin, of all things, and Mollie Holt did her usual disappearing act as Miss Piggy. Sondra Van Ert came fully equipped as a Tiki Bar, and Oregon college professor Jim Hutchinson made his annual appearance, this time as a yard sale in tough economic times.
