Farrow family benefit set for April 11

Silent auction and raffle items are being sought for the April 11 Farrow Family Benefit scheduled for 2-10 p.m. at Silver Springs Ranch, 114 Price Lane in Bellevue off Glendale Rd.

All proceeds will go to help Kathy Farrow and her family, following the untimely death of her husband and the children's father Tracey Farrow last year.

Donations of silent auction items and other contributions can be made at First Bank of Idaho in Bellevue or Idaho Lumber in Hailey. Jane Eittreim is collecting side dishes for the dinner. If you can bring something email her at Jane.eittreim@msn.com.

The focus will be on family fun at the Farrow benefit. There will be a jumpy gym and face painting for the kids, plus a horseshoe tournament and card games. Also planned: A pig feed and music from 8-10 p.m. by the Kim Stocking Band.

Child care will be available. Questions, call Buffy at 720-1998 or Kelly at 720-9763.

Sophia Schwartz just misses skier halfpipe podium

Waterville Valley (N.H.) freestyle skier Sophia Schwartz, 18, who grew up in Telluride, Colo. and Sun Valley, placed fourth in women's skier halfpipe Saturday at the 2009 Sprint Freestyle U.S. Championships held at Squaw Valley, Ca. Hailey's Wing Tai Barrymore placed ninth in skier halfpipe for the men. Also competing from Sun Valley were Colter Brehmer (18th) and Trace Page (32nd).

The 100-competitor national championships featured moguls Friday and dual moguls Sunday. Among local finishes were Schwartz 26th moguls and 21st duals; Aunika Phillips 32-M and 31-DM; Kali Phillips 38-M; Lauren Phillips 37-DM; Kurtis Fieguth 34-M and 31-DM; Austin Bourret 40-M and 35-DM; Joey Richardson 42-DM.

Ketchum's Shane Cordeau, a U.S. "C" team racer, got about 80 feet of air in Friday's singles moguls and crashed near the finish line. He took out the timing and that caused about an hour delay in the race, Sun Valley coach Andy Ware said.

Fink-Debray fifth in Western Region men's slalom

Ketchum's Miles Fink-Debray, 21, placed fifth of 111 starters and only 56 two-run finishers during Sunday's men's slalom event of the USSA Western Region FIS Open on Picabo's run at Park City Mountain Resort in Utah. Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation racer Fink-Debray had been 10th of 65 finishers in Saturday's slalom. Another local racer, 21-year-old Tyler Chandler, was 14th and 24th in the two FIS slaloms and 33rd in Friday's giant slalom.

The SVSEF had two of the most promising young men in the field. Tanner Farrow, 15, moved all the way up to 21st place in Sunday's slalom after placing 36th SL and 43rd GS the previous two days. Bergen Palmer, 16, was 21st in Saturday's SL and 26th in Friday's GS. In a field of 100 women, Sierra Fox, 15, placed 42nd SL and 68th GS.

Dress down for Galena Lodge's Ride-Stride-Glide

Galena Lodge is counting down toward its season closing date of Sunday, April 5—but there is one more fun event coming up at the lodge located 23 miles north of Ketchum.

Galena Lodge's Ride-Stride-Glide event is set for Sunday, April 5 starting at 9:30 a.m., preceded by registration from 8-9:15 a.m. There is no advance registration, organizer Don Shepler said. Just show up and be ready for the LeMans "go find your bikes" start.

Depending on the weather, Shepler said the course will feature, in sequence, a bike ride of about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), a running leg of about 3k or 3.5k, and a skiing leg of about 5k to 6k. Participants can expect to spend about 20 to 40 minutes out on the course for each leg, said Shepler.

The Ride-Stride-Glide is popular for its Team Division ($30 per 3-person team), but solo participants are also welcome ($15 per person). Costumes in team themes are encouraged. There will be chili buffet lunch afterward.

Meanwhile, a blustery and snowy day didn't prevent 45 skiers from taking part in last Sunday's annual Galena Loppet Nordic 20-kilometer tour around the perimeter of the Galena trails.

Call 726-4010 for more details.
