Hailey tennis downs Jerome 11-1 in league debut

WRHS sweeps doubles on icy day


On an icy Idaho afternoon, the Wood River High School tennis team (3-1) captured its first Great Basin Conference West team triumph of the season 11-1 over host Jerome. Girls' doubles stars Jessica Hamilton and Ellen Davis remained unbeaten on the young season with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the #1 spot. Wood River swept doubles and lost only one singles' match Tuesday.

Wood River was due to visit Twin Falls Thursday and opens at home Friday, April 3 against Hillcrest of Idaho Falls.

Results from Jerome. Boys' singles: #1—Morgan Pike (WR) 7-6, 6-2 over Eric Novis (J). #2—Raleigh Grossbaum (WR) 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 over Michael Pittman (J). #3—Bryan Donoso (WR) 6-3, 6-1 over Matt Grosshans (J).

Girls' singles: #1—Tanya Greenwood (WR) 7-5, 6-2 over Samantha Sobotka (J). #2—Breanna Gilbert (J) 6-2, 6-2 over Lauren Reutter (WR). #3—Kahli Toussaint Steenstra (WR) 6-3, 6-0 over Natalie Briggs (J).

Boys' doubles: #1—Brendan Freund and R.J. Forgeon (WR) 7-6, 7-6 over Jordan Meservy and Josiah Higley (J). #2—Jordan Niedrich and Johnny Burbridge (WR) over Chace Capps and Michael Gilbert (J).

Girls' doubles: #1—Jessica Hamilton and Ellen Davis (WR) 6-0, 6-2 over Cassandra Novis and Crystal Valdez (J). #2—Tory Lakey and Allie Freund (WR) 6-1, 6-2 over Kara Wayment and Krystal Reid (J).

Mixed doubles: #1—Alex Henning and Kelsey Brennan (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Dallas Hammer and Hannah Hull (J). #2—William DeBree and Morgan Jones (WR) 6-2, 7-5 over Tyler Elwell and Danni Nunnally (J).
