Stearns shoots 76 in a stiff breeze

WRHS golfers on top at Jerome

Junior Crockett Stearns won the season-opening prep golf meet with an even-par 72 March 12 at Burley, and he continued his hot shooting for Wood River High in a cool breeze at Jerome County Club Tuesday.

Stearns shared individual medalist honors with a 76 and got plenty of help with 79s from his teammates, juniors Chance McCroskey and Jonathan Hobbs. They led Wood River to a 40-point team victory over Burley out of five 4A boys' squads at Jerome.

Other Wood River scores were senior Rex Nilsen 89 and sophomore Davis Hague 96. Joining Stearns at 76 was Jerome's Jordan Roberts.

Final team scores on the frigid day, best four with the lowest winning, were Wood River 323, Burley 363, Jerome 376, Minico of Rupert 391 and Preston 402.
