Esther Emily Palmer, known to her friends as Hetty, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2009, of age-related causes at Blaine Manor in Hailey, Idaho. She was 87 years old.
Born Esther Emily Williams on Feb. 17, 1922, in Cardiff, South Wales, U.K. Esther was the daughter of a coal miner and the second to the oldest of six children. Her parents and all but one sibling, Ruthy, preceded her in death.
She married her husband of 66 years, Ivor Palmer in Cardiff on April 17, 1943. In 1945, she gave birth to her son, David. Ivor left for America and the promise of a better life and worked in Alaska until he earned enough to send for her and their son.
They met in Canada where they all immigrated to the United States together in 1954. They spent most of their time in Southern California, until they retired to Idaho to live near their son and grandchildren.
Hetty loved to read and converse about the British monarchy and knew who loved whom during the various reigns of power in all of England.
Esther is survived by her husband, Ivor, of Gannett, her son, David of Hailey, three grandchildren, Emmily of Boise, Daniel of McCall and Thomas of Bellevue, and three great-grandchildren, Macy, Charlie and Alisa. Private services will be held by the family.
Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho (www.woodriverchapel.com).
