Young skiers earn awards at Hobson race

114 racers come to Dollar for gates, goodies


First stop on Spring Break for 114 local skiers Saturday, March 14 was the 32nd annual Hobson Memorial alpine ski races on Dollar Mountain.

Kids and parents enjoyed a beautiful sunny day for skiing, courtesy of Mrs. Dorothy Hobson Krumm.

The Hobson is for Wood River Valley junior racers who are members of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation or Hailey Ski Team.

Nina Hirner and Willie Adicoff clocked the fastest times Saturday for the Roy L. Hobson Trophy. Other trophy winners are listed in the results.

In addition, the SVSEF gave out some of its year-end awards to those in the younger classes.

On the Development Team:

Most Improved were Flynn Stewart and Olivia Ott.

Most Valuable were Taylor Koth and Lily Fitzgerald.

Coaches' Award winners were Wyatt Minor, Daniel Begovich, Katie Peters and Emma Stuessi.

Accepting the Howard Dean Award were Alvaro Jiraldo and Hailey Boyd.

Further SVSEF awards will be presented at the Alpine J1-J3 and C Travel Team awards celebration Thursday, April 16 at Ketchum's nexStage Theatre. Also, the SVSEF Junior Nordic ski team will have its Devo Team awards Friday, April 3 and the Comp/Prep Teams will gather Saturday, April 4, also at nexStage.

C Home Team awards

Year-end awards for the SVSEF C Home Team were:

Most Improved: Matteo Jorgenson and Hallie MacPherson.

Most Valuable: Will Snyder and Margot Griffith.

Coaches' Awards: Carson Jones-Wilkins and Pilar Pennell.

Overall Mini World Cup top three finishers—Boys: 1—Will Snyder. 2—Wyatt Smith. 3—Hayden Cowden. Girls: 1—Abby Norton. 2—Poppy Vorse-Whittier. 3—Katelyn Rathfon.

And, the top World Cup team was Team USA with Caleb Morgan, Sage Rheinschild, Lauren Cord, Cade Street, Victoria Castellano Wood, Clay Cutler, Sarah Brown and Hayden Cowden.
