The Brooklyn based blues guitarist Hugh Pool will play the Boiler Room in Sun Valley with bassist Keith Christopher, drummer James Wormworth and Paul Tillotson on piano and organ.

Journeyman blues guitarist Hugh Pool, has played his guitar around the globe and plans to bring it to Idaho for a return visit to Sun Valley to play the Boiler Room on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21.

"I have been playing guitar all my life," said the energetic Pool from his recording studio in Williamsburg, New York. "I moved to New York City when I was 20 and played in the subway. I have never had any other job."

Pool has released six CDs under various names and has made several television appearances including The Emeril Lagasse Show, ABC World News Now, ABC's The City, ABC's Love Monkey with Tom Cavanaugh and Late Night With Conan O'Brien.

"I play a psychedelia blues," Pool said. "It's a blues rock, which is a little trippy. I take a lot of old blues songs and add in my own style."

Pool is also a producer, engineer and mixer for his own studio, Excello Recording. He has worked with diverse artists such as Taj Mahal, Hubert Sumlin, Molly Ringwald, Michael Brecker, Debbie Harry, Johnny Johnson, Dan Zanes and Marah.

"I am always searching for the roots in music," Pool said. "We will play some originals and some covers, but we are coming to Sun Valley to entertain."

Pool's cover tunes are mixed with a blues style. Well-known songs from Led Zepplin or Jimi Hendrix are played with his 1929 steel guitar giving songs a classic blues edge. Joining Pool at the Boiler Room will be bassist Keith Christopher of the Georgia Satellites and the Henry Rollins band, drummer James Wormworth of Late Night with Conan O'Brien and special guest piano and organist Paul Tillotson.

"I recorded, mixed and played lap steel for Paul Tillotson on his CD 'Funky Good Time'," Pool said. "I have been playing at the Lakeside Lounge on the Lower East Side of New York City for over ten years."

Tickets are $10 at the door both shows start at 9:30 p.m. For details, call 622-2148.
