Barrymore wins Junior Olympic halfpipe

Wednesday at Waterville Valley


Sun Valley's Tai Barrymore, the grandson of Hall of Fame ski filmmaker Dick Barrymore, achieved a little notoriety himself Wednesday during the USSA Junior Olympics March 9-16 at Waterville Valley, N.H.

Barrymore, 16, won Wednesday's halfpipe competition and earned an automatic berth in the 2009 Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships March 28 at Squaw Valley, Calif.

Other halfpipe finishers for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation's Freestyle/Freeride team included Colter Brehmer 12th, Trace Page 16th and Ben Parker 25th.

They were among 13 SVSEF Junior Olympic qualifiers at Waterville Valley. Other events were slopestyle Thursday plus moguls Friday, aerials Saturday and dual moguls Sunday.

Other JO skiers are Zana Davey, Alysha Herich, Anita Vorsteveld, Kali Phillips, Aunika Phillips, Joey Richardson, Nathan Moses, Adam Vorsteveld and RJ Bracken.
