"Ski the 70s" was the costume contest theme of Sunday's 24th annual Paw n' Pole cross-country ski event at Sun Valley Gun Club out Trail Creek Road, according to event publicity director Andrea Nelson.
The weather gods must love dogs, because the happy crowd of 60, including 38 registered racers, enjoyed beautiful weather and great snow. And if you missed it, next year's silver anniversary event will feature commemorative hats.
"Silly Pet Tricks" winners were Chris Campbell with Sheila, a mixed-breed former shelter dog. Sheila performed a dazzling variety of tricks and high-fived her owner, on cue, when the award was revealed.
The announcer paid special tribute to Hurley Hamilton's old white Husky named Libby, participating in her 14th Paw n'Pole event Sunday.
About $575 was raised for the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, and two Paw n' Pole dogs are being considered for adoption by the people they met Sunday.
