Sides wraps up Wentworth career

Hailey's Joey Sides wrapped up his college ice hockey career at Boston's Wentworth College in Saturday's championship game of the ECAC Northeast Tournament. Sides scored a go-ahead goal but it wasn't enough as Nichols College (25-3-0) won its first-ever conference title 4-3 over Wentworth (18-8-1) at Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I. Wentworth College's Leopards had been gunning for their first conference title since 2004, and fifth championship overall.

Three-year captain Sides is a 5-11, 180-pounder from Sun Valley Junior Hockey and Avon Old Farms who enjoyed his best offensive season as a forward his senior season, after playing the last two years on the blue line. An honorable mention All-Conference selection, Sides finished as the fourth-leading Leopards scorer with a career-best 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points in 23 games. For his 90-game career, he had 32 goals and 53 assists—12th on the school's all-time scoring list. His goal late in the third period of last week's semi-final game at Curry College gave Wentworth College the 3-2 lead it wouldn't relinquish on the road to the championship game.
