Although the official 2009 Idaho Winter Games was cancelled this year, the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club (SVFSC) went ahead and hosted its own Sun Valley Winter Games on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Competing were 62 skaters, mostly from Blaine County. The vast majority competed in Basic Skills and no-test events. A handful of local test-level skaters rounded out the roster.
Locals earning gold were:
Nicole Pratt, Caitlin Sholtis, Claire Siderman, Emma Stuessi, Sarah Brown, Samantha Bunting, Arizona Semones, Tara Ware, Travis Flynt, Isabella Bourret, Noelle Weaver, Blair Baker, Blake Letourneau, Chloe Barrymore, Claire Fisher, Hayley Allen, Alice Haberson, Sheldon Gentling, Aurora Wilkinson, Antonio Avery, Shea Kelly and Caroline Hold.
Five from Sun Valley—Chloe Barrymore, Maebrianna Webb, Alice Haberson, Aurora Wilkinson and Tallulah Gilbreath—experienced Winter Games as their first competitive skating event.
Distinguished figure skating judges from Washington, Wyoming and Ohio officiated with resident judges David Hold, Lolly Jensen and Barbara Stuns. Following the competition, SVFSC hosted a United States Figure Skating Test session for skaters seeking to establish or raise their USFS ranking in Freeskate, Moves in the Field and Ice Dancing.
