Participants at the 2008 Sun Valley Spiritual Film Festival were impressed by the film "Soul Masters," about spiritual leader and healer Dr. Zhi Hang Sha. The film's producers accompanied the movie to the Wood River Valley and conducted a Soul Healing workshop at the end of the festival. The overwhelming response to the film and workshop from the community has resulted in the film's return and a weekend visit by Sha.

The non-profit Sun Valley Wellness Institute, which produces the annual Sun Valley Wellness Festival held over Memorial Day weekend, has expanded its efforts to bring additional wellness-orientated programs and presentations to the Wood River Valley throughout the year. The first program is the Power of Soul weekend workshop with Sha, a best-selling author and teacher.

"The Community Development Corp. in Ketchum wants to attract more people from out of town, whether it is a cooking school, a wellness institute or other activities," said Marcia Duff, a Sun Valley Wellness Institute spokeswoman. "Dr. Sha will be the first event we do for the Sun Valley Wellness Institute, and we will bring these events into town throughout the year."

Sha said he helps people transform their lives through teaching joy and compassion, which are simple techniques and are included in his latest book, "The Power of Soul: The Way to Heal, Rejuvenate, Transform and Enlighten All Life." He said he combines 5,000-year-old wisdom of the East and breakthrough secrets of modern spirituality to teach soul healing and the power for the "soul over matter" worldwide.

Sha is a medical doctor in China who uses traditional Chinese medicine in both his home country and Canada. He is also a master of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, "I Ching" and Feng Shui. Sha was named Qi Gong Master of the Year at the Fifth World Congress in 2002. He was a recipient of the 2006 Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame Award for his humanitarian efforts, and is a New York Times best-selling author of several books on matters of the soul.

Sha lives in Toronto and travels at least six months of the year to teach the power of the soul to people around the world. He said his chants and healing practices help workshop participants find a voice within themselves.

"It is from this place of the soul connection that healing is accessed," Sha said.
