Dashing Through, and Over, The Snow

The Wood River Extreme Skijoring Association held its sixth annual equestrian event over the weekend along lower Broadford Road in Bellevue. According to event organizer Tyler Peterson, 22 teams competed Saturday and even more on Sunday with about 200 fans in attendance both days. Above, Heidi Eichentopf aboard Clincy tows her sister Christie through the course, which included two jumps, slalom gates and ten grab rings. Farther down the course on this run, Clincy stumbled, tossing Heidi and landing on top of her, breaking two vertebrae in the rider’s neck and back. Eichentopf was released from the hospital Saturday night, however, and was back at the venue Sunday cheering on the competitors. Her mother, Gretchen Eichentopf, reported yesterday that “Heidi is doing great, is strong and coming back next year to compete with a vengeance. Heidi also wants to thank the community enormously.” Express photo by Willy Cook
