Head of humanitarian unit to be honored

Pamela DeLargy, chief of the United Nations Population Fund's Humanitarian Response Unit, will be a special guest at a cocktail gathering for the Family of Woman Film Festival on Thursday, March 12.

She is responsible for the provision of reproductive health supplies in conflict areas, natural disasters and refugee situations. The Humanitarian Response Unit works with the U.N.'s Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

DeLargy has worked on the issues of refugees, forced migration and women's health for 20 years, primarily in Africa and the Middle East. She was an advisor on family planning and population policy in the Sudan for a number of years and was the Population Fund's representative to Eritrea for five years. While working with that newly independent country, she was active in establishing the first multi-area HIV prevention program.

DeLargy has published articles on human rights, poverty and famine, refugees, and population policy and reproductive health in emergency and conflict situations.

The cocktail gathering will be held at the home of Gemma and Russ Daggatt's home in Ketchum.
