The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research will hold its 13th annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium, Feb. 25 to March 1 in Sun Valley. Breast cancer research scientists from around the world will attend the symposium, titled "Using Bioinformatics To Transform Breast Cancer."
The invitation-only conference will be chaired by Expedition Inspiration scientific advisor Dr. Marc Lippman.
Lippman is chairman of the Department of Medicine and Kathleen and Stanley Glaser professor at the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami.
"The Expedition Inspiration symposium provides an incredible opportunity for scientists and leading clinical researchers in the field of breast cancer to present novel, exciting, unpublished science," Lippman said. "Ensuing discussions enhance, refine and improve that science. Collaborations among investigators spring up in the informal setting, where scientists can share their insights and unique new ideas with each other. The outcomes have been better science, new collaborations and new treatment protocols."
On Thursday, Feb. 27, symposium participants will present information on the latest advancements in breast cancer research topics to the public. Presentations will also be made by Dr. Elizabeth Iorns from the University if Miami and Dr. Jinfeng Suo of Baylor College of Medicine, both of whom received supporting grants from Expedition Inspiration.
An open forum will include a question-and-answer period. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Limelight Room in the Sun Valley Inn. Everyone is invited to attend. The event is sponsored by a grant from St. Luke's Wood River Foundation.
Expedition Inspiration, which holds treks, hikes and other activities to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research, is headquartered in Ketchum. For more information call 726-6456, or visit expeditioninspiration.org.
