People and Places


Seven Wood River High School students participated in a wide variety of individual, team and speaking events during the Business Professionals of America regional competition Jan. 19 at Burley.

Placing first in Human Resources Management and second in Advanced Interview Skills was Jeff Maxwell. Taking first in Desktop Publishing and first in Word Processing Skills was Mary VanZeipel.

In second place as a Video Production Team were Conor Murray and James Petzke. Murray also finished third in Word Processing Skills. Sam Schwab captured third place in Desktop Publishing.

All these Wood River High students qualified for the BPA state contest March 12-14 in Boise. Students qualifying at state can advance to the National Leadership Conference during May at Dallas, Texas, according to teacher Lisa Hoskins.

Two other students participated at regionals—Kelly Willows-Munro in Interview Skills and Kurt Yates in PC Servicing and Troubleshooting.

Wood River High School graduate Margaret Driscoll of Ketchum has been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2008 semester at the University of Vermont in Burlington. Driscoll is a junior public communication major in the College of Agriculture and Life Science.

Danielle Smith of Sun Valley, a Wood River High graduate, has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2008 semester at University of Vermont, where she is a sophomore.

Chosen for the dean's list at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., for the fall 2008 semester was Trista Ballou of Hailey. The daughter of Jeff and Gini Ballou is a Wood River High graduate majoring in music performance at Hamline.

Wood River High senior Robin Black has been accepted to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Hollywood, Calif.

Shauna Reed of Ketchum, a graduate of the medical assisting program at Boise's Apollo College, passed the CMA (AAMA) certification exam on Oct. 24 and earned the prestigious Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA) credential.

Community School graduate Caitlin Enright of Sun Valley was named to the dean's list at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

The following local students were among 2,200 University of Idaho students on the fall 2008 semester dean's list:

From Bellevue: Hillary Elmore (arts and social sciences).

From Carey: Shannon Roesbery (agricultural and life sciences) and Justin Dilworth (engineering).

From Hailey: Kimberly Martin (business and economics), Katie Zuck (natural resources), Jacqueline Goddard, Jessica Rice and Joe Paisley (arts and social sciences).

From Ketchum: Kami Doan (arts and social sciences).

From Sun Valley: Ross Clifford (arts and social sciences).

In addition, Michael Smith also made the dean's list at the University of Idaho's College of Art and Architecture. He is employed by Ruscitto, Latham and Blanton of Ketchum.
