Love is in the air

This year Cupid has plenty of opportunity to strike around the Wood River Valley, especially for open hearts looking to help one another.

The "Be a Sweetheart and Make a Difference" benefit brunch at Zou 75 in Hailey will benefit orphans in Tanzania and India and is part of Wood River High School's Megan Hayes' senior project. Brunch will be served at 9:30 and 11 a.m. and is $15 per person and $50 for a family of five. For details, call 721-1125.

For the sporty couple in love, take that special someone heli skiing with Sun Valley Heli Ski Tours at a 20 percent discount on Valentine's Day. For details, call 622-3108 or visit sunvalleyheliski.com.

Perhaps a change of scene is needed for romance. Lovers can head up to the beautiful environs of Galena Lodge, 24 miles north of Ketchum off state Highway 75. After a day on the trails or backcountry, head into the lodge for a Valentine's Day dinner prepared with love in mind. Crackling fires, warm drinks and delicious food will make this an unforgettable Valentine's Day. Dinner is $50 per person and starts at 6:30 p.m. For reservations, call 726-4010.

In Sun Valley, take a sweetheart away for the evening with a one night's stay in Sun Valley Lodge or Inn with a bottle of fine French champagne upon arrival. The package also includes two full-body massage treatments at the Sun Valley Spa. On Sunday, Feb. 15, brunch for two will be served at the Lodge Dining Room. The cost is $309 per couple plus tax. For reservations, call (800) 786-8259.

If it's just dinner for two, take a loved one to eat at the rustic and newly renovated Papa Hemi's Hideaway in Ketchum. The Hideaway will offer a four-course dinner for $45 per person available Friday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, Feb. 15. Reservations are recommended but not required.

Sup on mushroom-risotto croquettes, roasted beet salad and choose between a crispy whole snapper or Indian-spiced loin of local lamb. Finish with a "Cake 'n' Shake for Two." For details, call 726-3773.

Maybe sharing heartfelt love for the world is what is needed for the day. Attend the "Love Dogs" event at Light on the Mountains Spiritual Center sponsored by the Winter Feast for the Soul. Festivities start at 7:30 p.m. with a short film about Whirling Dervishes followed by the poetry of Rumi read by local Rumi-lovers accompanied by the music of Wade Port. The evening will end with desserts and beverages. Bring a favorite beverage or a luscious homemade dessert to share. For details, call 788-6373.

Finally, if it's hard to handle Valentine's Day, take a loved one or best pal to the Sun Valley Suns senior men's hockey game vs. Missoula (Mt.) Cutthroats in Sun Valley. Saturday's game will benefit Girls on the Run. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
