Baldy’s superpipe ready to open

On Lower Warm Springs

Sun Valley Co. will open its superpipe on Bald Mountain's Lower Warm Springs run today, Friday, Feb. 6, or on Saturday, said company spokesman Jack Sibbach.

Opening day depends on how quickly the pipe sets up after it is groomed with a Zaugg Pipe Monster, an 18-foot pipe cutter made it Switzerland.

"They (the groomers) are cutting it right now," Sibbach said. "Peter Stearns said they will cut it a first time and if it is too soft, they will let it sit overnight and cut it again. If it takes the first time it will be Friday. If not, Saturday."

SVSEF snowboard director Andy Gilbert said, "Couldn't be more pleased that the pipe is opening so our kids can start achieving their goals that they set at the beginning of the year."
