Higgins throws down rock-hard run

Birthday boy Sean Higgins threw down a man-sized gauntlet in the Town Alpine Series on Baldy on Wednesday. Skiing for Rock Hard, Higgins turned in the only sub-24-second run in the dual giant slalom. His 23.9 topped runner-up SVSEF's Nate Schwing by 3/100ths of a second. Carlo Rixon of Tekasoreass was third. Wes Powell was fourth and Matt Murphy fifth.

For the second week in a row, Erika Hogan (SVSEF) was the top woman and tenth overall. Teammate Sarah Mazzola was runner-up and 12th overall. Rounding out the fastest five were Erika Whittaker (19th overall), Ashley Brown (22nd) and Christine Cordeau (23rd).

The 18th annual series is co-sponsored by Sun Valley Co. and Watkins Distributing. Chester & Jake's in Hailey is the site of the awards party on Feb. 4.
