Get a room for the Special Olympics

While a number of lodging properties are already full for the Special Olympics World Winter Games, a range of rooms is still available.

The Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau announced Friday that accommodation can be found at nearly a dozen properties, ranging from hotels to condominiums to bed and breakfasts, for the event taking place Feb. 7-13.

Chamber spokeswoman Bronwyn Patterson said establishments with vacancies for that period include the Airport Inn, AmericInn Lodge and the Featherbed Inn in Hailey, the High Country Motel in Bellevue and the Best Western Kentwood Lodge, Pennay's, Clarion Inn condos, Knob Hill Inn and Lift Tower Lodge in Ketchum. As well, there are rooms open at the Sun Valley Resort, and various accommodations available through Premier Resorts and ResortQuest.

The Special Olympics' Sun Valley events will include nordic ski and snowboard competitions as well as a number of social functions. Sun Valley Police Chief Cam Daggett, who is in charge of security for the events, said he's expecting 900 delegation members, made up of athletes, coaches and trainers.

Daggett also said that with the Boulder Mountain Tour taking place on Saturday, Feb. 7, some of the Olympic athletes are choosing to stay in Twin Falls before heading up on Sunday.
