Logan Justice Schofield needs a fighting chance. This 6-year-old Fairfield kid was born with no right eye and lacks the use of the right side of his body.

His hard-working parents, Lindsey and Jason Schofield, work in the Wood River Valley, yet regularly need to take time off to shuttle Logan back and forth to Salt Lake City for expensive treatments aimed at reducing painful seizures brought about by his special condition.

Logan was born blind, but began regaining sight in his left eye when he was 6 months old. He has undergone two major surgeries to reduce the seizures. Now there is hope that doctors can eliminate them by implanting an electrical device in Logan's chest.

But the economic slowdown has hit the Schofield family especially hard. They are in danger of losing their home in Fairfield.

A benefit will be held Saturday night at Mahoney's Bar and Grill on Main Street in Bellevue to raise funds for the Schofield family and get Logan to Salt Lake City. Slow Children Playing will perform. A raffle and auction will take place, offering golf days, fishing gear, gardening supplies and other prizes

"Logan has had a tough go of it," said Shaun Mahoney, who will host the benefit. "We are going to try and do a little something for him."

Logan has been getting riding lessons at the Sagebrush Equine Training Center in Hailey, where he has learned to give hand signals to his mount Artex, to go and stop.

Since his second major surgery at 19 months of age, his seizures are far less frequent. He can move his left side, even pulling himself up to stand. He can also take a few steps with the help of others, including his three brothers, Payton, 9, Maximus, 5, and 1-year-old Xander,

"God gives you what you can handle," Jason Schofield said. "I guess he thought we could handle this."

The benefit for Logan Schofield will take place Saturday Jan. 24 from 4-6 p.m. at Mahoney's Bar and Grill, 104 S. Main St. in Bellevue.

The benefit prizes are sponsored by Karen's Pharmacy, The Kiwanis Club of Hailey, The Wicked Spud, Hailey Paint and Dr. Carl Barbee.
