The Special Olympics World Winter Games is heating up. On Nov. 12 in Athens, Greece, the Olympic torch was lit for the Law Enforcement Torch Run across five continents on its way to the 2009 World Winter Games in Boise. The "Flame of Hope" will travel more than 37,000 miles before it reaches the opening ceremonies. It is now in New York. It will reach Idaho on Thursday, Jan. 29.

The torch run will come through Sun Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 4, just prior to the games' beginning on Feb. 7 in Boise. The Law Enforcement Torch Run will include three scheduled events. There will be a ceremony in Sun Valley starting at 8:30 a.m. The run will pass The Community School for the entire student body and faculty to join in. That leg will conclude at Dollar Mountain Lodge for a brief ceremony with comments from elected officials, law enforcement representatives, Special Olympics athletes and students.

Then it's off to Hailey for a quick ceremony at about 10:30 a.m. at the Wood River Middle School. The run will continue past the Hailey Elementary School en route to the Wood River High School. A ceremony will take place in the high school parking lot. There will be an additional leg from South Woodside ending at noon at the Woodside Elementary School gymnasium for a special ceremony.
