Rookies like Farrington shine at Copper

Halfpipe podiums for the U.S.

Bellevue's Kaitlin Farrington may prefer slopestyle, but the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation alumna is pretty decent in halfpipe as well.

Farrington earned the silver medal Wednesday during the women's halfpipe competition of the 2009 U.S. Snowboarding Revolution Tour stop at Copper Mountain, Colo.

The 5-4, 115-pound former Wood River High School student was one of five U.S. Snowboarding rookies who earned podium spots, with Matt Ladley of Steamboat Springs, Colo. and Vermont's Lizzy Beerman taking the halfpipe wins.

Beerman, who ran a frontside air, backside air, frontside nine, backside 5 frontside 5, was stoked to land a coveted trick in her run.

Farrington and Zac Black of Breckenridge, Colo. were awarded the UnderArmour "Trick of the Day" awards. Black landed a frontside 1080 and Farrington made a cab 7.

"It was the first time I've landed a cab 7 in a contest so I was relieved to land it and be recognized for it," Farrington said.

The U.S. Snowboarding Revolution Tour continues Friday with slopestyle at Copper Mountain. Current members of the SVSEF Snowboard Team are competing at Copper.
