Classic is the game at Teton Ridge Ranch

31 local Nordic skiers make the trek


Thirty-one Wood River Valley cross-country skiers made the three-hour trek to the Teton Valley Saturday for the sixth annual Teton Ridge Classic 28-kilometer, 14k and 5k races in eastern Idaho.

Local age class winners included Kim Kawaguchi, Jenny Busdon, Shauna Thoreson, Andy Andrews, Charley French, Muffy Ritz, Linda McClatchy, Gabriele Andersen, Eric Jensen, Jon Engen, Jim McClatchy and Bob Rosso.

Men's 40-44 winner Eric Jensen (1.21:34) placed second overall among the 73 men's 28k racers. Bronze medalist Muffy Ritz (1.40:44) came out of the Women's 50-54 class to place third. Women's 60-64 stalwart Gabriele Anderson (1.44:26) finished fifth of 21 women.

In all there were 157 skiers at the three distances in rolling terrain at Teton Ridge Ranch 10 miles northeast of Driggs. Class finishes, racer names and finishing times are listed here:

28 kilometers

Men: 1—Eric Jensen 1.21:34, Jon Engen 1.25:41, Jim McClatchy 1.35:41 and Bob Rosso 1.29:03.

2—Scott Tucker 1.29:47, Kris Thoreson 1.32:00, Del Pletcher 1.34:50 and Tullio Celano 2.06:31. 3—Mike Wolter 1.35:29. 4—Wilhelm Northrop 1.28:09 and Roger Miller 2.16:58. 5—Jon Holmquist 1.48:09. 6—Michael Dunham 1.49:24.

Women: 1—Muffy Ritz 1.40:44, Gabriele Andersen 1.44:26 and Linda McClatchy 2.03:33. 2—Lili Simpson 2.14:04. 3—Marilyn Celano 2.37:48. 4—Susan Thoreson 1.54:58.

14 kilometers

Men: 1—Andy Andrews 53:40 and Charley French 1.06:42. 2—Dick Andersen 59:39, Nello Busdon 1.04:34 and Robert Disbrow 59:53.

Women: 1—Kim Kawaguchi 58:43, Jenny Busdon 1.21:03 and Shauna Thoreson 1.34:14. 3—Darlene Young 1.01:02 and Katharine Sheldon 1.00:44. 4—Joni Cashman 1.06:04 and Francette Labatut 1.32:35.
